Announcing a major releases of Abraquest and also a new web based option coming soon.

Abraquest Release 3

Abraquest Version 3.0.0.0 is scheduled for the start of the school year in late August / early September, and will be another big release with many new and interesting features (which you will be able to turn off if you don't use them all, don't worry - see my last post about turning options off that you don't use).

There will be a number of new features aimed at further improving usability and utility of Abraquest, making it even easier to use (we have many customers who have been with us for 20 years or longer who swear its very easy to use so it will be interesting to hear what they have to say).

One of these features is a new Issues/Returns which can be used either with teacher in the room, or teacher not in the room. This will not replace the existing Issues/Returns options already within Abraquest. I have to thank St Edmunds school for giving me the inspiration for this new feature. It will be the fourth way that you can choose to do Issues/Returns and confirms our commitment to make Abraquest all things to all school libraries.

It will also have updated communications with Abraquest online which will improve reliability for the few schools we have that sometimes experience problems connecting.

This release of Abraquest will also have an extra cost option - please await the new website for details of this announcement.

I will blog about the new features in due course - watch this space!

Web based Abraquest

Abraquest is going web based! In addition to the 3 options of purchasing the existing Abraquest, there will also eventually be 3 options for the web based version.

This is in response to some customer requests and the first option will be out later this year. We are looking for early adopters to give us feedback on the new software, in return for a discounted first year, so if you are interested please get in touch and we will discuss details further.

The upside is that you can have Abraquest available for multiple users at the same time from any kind of device that can access the internet and there will be many more options available eventually without you having to worry about backups or the Abraquest PC. The downside is that Abraquest Software Assurance will be mandatory as web based means web hosting costs. Prices will be announced as each option becomes available but we intend to be as competitive as the we always are.

More information will be available with the new website.

I would like to say here and now that we will NEVER lose focus on the existing product, nor make it obsolete and force customers to upgrade to the latest incarnation. As experienced software developers we see no reason for this, its just a political thing at some software houses do in a ploy to make more money, or they are just plain poor at writing software and can't maintain it properly having to rewrite every few years and ask customers to pay for their incompetence. The last word - we don't ever charge our customers for upgrades - Abraquest Software Assurance customers get all upgrades for free (within their chosen package).

In fact the existing Abraquest system will be available as an option for web based customers and will continue to be available for the next 20 years alongside the web based version either web based or otherwise.

I personally am still involved in writing software every day, having been doing so since 1983 - and I am looking forwards to giving customers all these new features with the same excitement as ever.
